MassTango Mass Tango celebrates the magic and spirit of the streets in Buenos Aires. Music and dance blend together recreating the unique atmosphere of a city where tango is a way of life. Originals and famous tangos in instrumental and sung versions are part of the repertoire of this group, which regularly includes outstanding tango dancers. Popular tangos by Carlos Gardel as well as the world famous La Cumparsita and El Choclo and celebrated tangos, waltzes and milongas from the ‘40s and 50', the golden eras of tango are included. Mass Tango is a musical and imaginary trip to Buenos Aires. BiographiesBernardo Monk(Saxophones, Flute, Voice, Direction) Musician and vocalist, Bernardo Monk began singing tango at the age of nine. He went on to study woodwinds at the Buenos Aires School of Contemporary Music and the Berklee College of Music. With a strong background in both jazz and tango, Monk brings a unique style and sound to traditional tango. He combines a varied musical background, high-level technique, masterly vocals and especially the use of saxophone- a non traditional instrument- with a deep understanding of traditional tango streams to create a unique program that both honors and expand the tango forms. In May 2004 Bernardo Monk with MassTango pianist Octavio Brunetti took first prize in the Best Tango Duo Category at the New York City International Tango Competition for professional instrumentalists and singers. Fernanda Cajide (Tango dancer) Fernanda was born in Buenos Aires , Argentina. She inherited the passion for tango from her grandfather, an authentic “milonguero.” She began her dancing career at the age of 5 at some of the most renowned dance studios in Buenos Aires such as Noemi Coelho-Rodolfo Olguin and Olga Kirowa Dance Studios. Fernanda has worked with Sabrina and Rubén Véliz and Angel Coria. Considered by critics among the finest tango dancers performing today. Fernanda began her professional career in Argentina in 1997 where she danced with some of today’s finest dancers in the tango scene. Fernanda performed in many popular tango venues in Buenos Ares, such as La Cumparsita and El viejo almacen. Fernanda’s performing and teaching experience, as well as her deep knowledge of the salon tango style make her a stunning interpreter of authentic Argentine tango.
